Aimed at arousing interest in history and the nations heritage, and at the same time providing the Mitchell Library with useful material on local structures, this school project was arranged by the New South Wales Department of Education, the Mitchell Library and the National Trust of Australia (N.S.W.) for third year history students in state and private schools. The students were encouraged to visit structures dating prior to 1900 and record their condition in photographs, drawings, plans and maps, and to give the history of each structure
