    Brent Clements Rodd (1809-1898), solicitor, was born in England in 1809 and travelled to Australia in 1822. In 1838 he bought fifty acres of the Five Dock Estate, Sydney, from Samuel Lyons and built his house, Barnstaple Manor. In 1851 he was a member of the management committee of the Australasian Botanical and Horticultural Society.
    Thomas Walker, merchant, banker and benefactor, came to Australia about 1822. His business interests included land, shipping and banking. He made his home at Yaralla, Concord.
