    F. Hales, 1822-1900, Anglican clergyman, scholar and writer, was born in Ireland. Arriving in Melbourne in 1848 he soon took over the parish of Heidelberg and in 1853 he moved to Launceston. He became Archdeacon of Northern Tasmania in 1877 and from 1896 on he was warden of the University of Tasmania Senate
