    At the request of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the War Office sent the 3rd Foot, East Kent Regiment, as reinforcements to garrison his expanding domain. This regiment was more commonly known as the Buffs, a nickname taken originally from the colour of the facings to the regiment's uniform. -- Reference: Australian War Memorial, and State Records of New South Wales, Online Feb. 2003
