John Lawrence Tierney, born in 1892 at Eurunderee, NSW, was a school teacher and a writer. He taught at Fort Street Boys High School in Sydney from 1926-1941. His first story appeared in the Bulletin in 1942; under the pseudonym 'Brian James' he published four collections of short stories and two novels. - Scope and ContentPapers include 'Roads I've loved the best' a poem written in 1927; reminiscences and short stories, ca 1940s - 1960s (Saga of Alfred the Dane, Bantie, Auld Reekie, The Woodheap, Barbed wire, The Pine Ridges murder, Beyond Laputa); copies of 5 letters written by Tierney to Eric Rolls between ca 1947-1968; together with a ms. copy of a school magazine probably from Fort Street Boys High School, [1927]
