    VOLUME I
    ca. 1868-1880; Correspondence, receipts, and newscuttings. The letters pertain to the theatre company and are from appreciative members of the Australian and New Zealand public and dramatic societies in Melbourne including the Australasian Agency for the Dramatists Theatrical Starts of the Dramatic Authors Society, Royal Italian & English Opera, The Opera House Company Limited, and The Theatre Royal. Some letters are addressed to "Booty" (Call No.: A 56)
    VOLUME II
    ca. 1866-1880; Many letters are addressed to Mess. Booty & Co. Includes correspondence and receipts. Some letters seek employment or favourable seats. (Call No.: A 57)
    VOLUME III
    ca. 1870-1878; Receipts, correspondence, invitations to write for "The Programme" [literary magazine in the U.S.], and notes for engagements to meet and travel. Letters are addressed to James Booty and Lazar. (Call No.: A 58)

    ca. 1868-1878; Correspondence is of a more personal nature being addressed to "Sam", also promises of subscription, terms of engagement, and general matters. A few letters are addressed to Mess. Booty & Co. (Call No.: A 61)
  • System of arrangement
    Within each bound volume the papers are arranged mainly in chronological order. The volumes overlap in period and subject matter.
  • General note

    In May 1979, the contents of A 53 were removed and placed within a new volume, A 53-1.
    The cotton ties that fasten these volumes have broken off.
    "D.S. Mitchell" signature appears on front endpaper of each volume.
