  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    William Broughton (1768-1821) arrived in Sydney in 1788 on the First Fleet as a servant to Surgeon John White. A year later he was appointed storekeeper at Parramatta and in 1800 was promoted to acting deputy commissary at Norfolk Island. In 1814 on Governor Macquarie's recommendation he was made acting-assistant-commissary-general.
