  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

George Wyndham was a wine-grower and pastoralist who emigrated to Australia in 1827. He purchased the Annandale Estate, located near Branxton in the Hunter River valley. Renaming the property Dalwood, Wyndham began experimental farming and wine-making. Wyndham's enterprises were successful until the 1840's crisis in labour and prices severely affected the estate. -- Reference: Australian Dictionary of Biography. Vol.2, 1788-1850. • General note

The provenance of this volume is not known. It has been attributed to George Wyndham based a comparison of handwriting in, George Wyndham - diary, 1830-1840 (B 1313).
An inscription in the volume opposite a page titled "1833 Vineyard ..." orientates the orchard as being near Scone. The inscription reads; "Vines planted on the Nth side of Houses and Et. side of the road to Scone ..."
There are two additional loose sheets of paper within this volume.
The page with a description of plants for the second row in the orchard is missing from this volume.
As the volume is reversible (used from the front and back) it is difficult to discern which cover was intended as the front of the volume. The presence of D.S. Mitchell's signature on the back endpaper indicates that the Library's treatment of the volume is opposite to Mitchell's.
"D.S. Mitchell" signature inside original back cover.
