  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lyle Comyn Reeves served with the 1st Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force in New Guinea. He published an illustrated book of his experiences: Australians in action in New Guinea / by L.C. Reeves; with introduction by Lieut.-Col. Paton. Sydney : Australasian News, 1915. The Expedition was the first Australian engagement in World War I, and the first occupation of a foreign territory by an Australian force. -- Reference: ML 112/03

    Includes scenes of Rabaul, Herbertshohe, and training at Palm Island.
  • General note

    Many of the titles are faded and illegible.
    According to the title page of Reeves' book, the photographs were taken by a Signaller H. Ellis, who was also part of the Expedition. While some of the published photographs are also in this album, it contains many additional images.
    The Library holds manuscript material relating to this book, including drafts, and pre and post publication ephemera. `Lyle Comyn Reeves - Australians in action in New Guinea, 1914-15' (ML MSS 2456).
