    Objects - H 7.7 x L 15.5 x W 8.8 cm. or smaller - [postage?] scales mounted on rectangular wooden base with six circular shaped weights. The scales are brass, painted black in colour, and consist of a bell shaped centre frame, upper and lower crossbeams with a pan for weights on left-hand side and circular flat tray or pan for item being weighed on right-hand side. The oak base has five holes in front of the scales to allow for storage of the weights and two circular metal stoppers beneath scales. The original weights are brass, graduated in size, and have a flat base with indentation in the top centre to allow stacking. The smallest weight has a knob or handle. (7 items)

    The scales were used in the Mitchell Library Office in the 1940's and are thought to have belonged to David Scott Mitchell.
    The silver coloured weight is not part of the original set.
