The journal is anonymous, but is probably by Edwin Everett who arrived in Australia in 1842 to join his brothers at Ollera Station near Guyra. - Scope and ContentJournal contains descriptions of the voyage, adaptation to travel, weather conditions, activities onboard, wildlife, landscapes observed and places visited (including Santa Cruz and the Canary Islands, Cape Verde), arrival in Sydney on 6th May, journey to the Hunter region, life at Mr Samuda's station, and the movement of cattle between stations in New South Wales.

- General note
At the front of the volume is a typescript page by a former Mitchell Library Officer in 1940 that presents the evidence in favour of E. Everett being the author of this work. This is followed by a handwritten page titled, "Data used in finding the Writer's name" and is initialled, "Q.E.D."
Some pages bear watermark, "W. Warren / 1841"
The volume was rebound into new covers in July 1940.
