  • Scope and Content
    Contains notes about mining processes (such as the reduction of steam tin in blast furnaces and refining), the names of mining companies mainly operating in Queensland, products of mines at various places, receipts of material from G. Hamilton, list of supplies, and some sketches.
  • General note

    The author of this work has not been identified and cannot be substantiated. It is believed to be partially written by Charles Gould, but it could also be Gregory [Augustus or Francis?]. Gould and Gregory are referred to on pages 15, 40, and 148.
    An undated typescript note by a Mitchell Library Officer on the provenance of the notebook has been added to the front endpapers. It states that the notebook is written by "a person engaged on mining inspection in the Darling Downs" however, the contents covers southeast Queensland.
    The text is written in both ink and pencil.
    Many pages have been crossed out.
    There is provision for a pencil to be stored at the upper edge of the front cover.
    A brass clasp is used as a fastening device.
    The volume is reversible as it has been used from front to back.
    "D.S.M" initials appear on page added to front.
