  • Scope and Content
    Includes accounts of meetings of the Board of Longitude at which arrangements were made for sending out astronomers with Captain Cook's expeditions to South Seas. Logbooks of Adventure (1772-1774) and Resolution (1772-1775) contain astronomical observations and charts made by Wales and Bayly, whose instruments are listed in pieces 5 and 6 (PRO 1728-1729). Also includes astronomical observations made by Cook, in 1776 (PRO 1756, piece 47) and 1778-1780 (PRO 1756, piece 48). Includes other astronomers on voyages of exploration, 1763-1805, including the Daedalus.
    Includes records relating to Matthew Flinders and the Investigator, 1801-1805 (PRO 1757-1758, pieces 50-52).
    Includes William Dawes' papers, 1786-1792, piece 36, pp.238-308 (PRO 1753).
