The class is divided into two parts: entry books of correspondence, etc.; register of correspondence, orders, statistics, etc.; and miscellaneous. The first part consists of letters from associations and individuals concerning colonisation and emigration. The second part includes land selected in South Australia, 1859-1874; register of emigrant labourers applying for a free passage, 1836-1841, and alphabetical index; register of Acts and Ordinances in Australia and New Zealand, 1847-1855; register of ships' surgeons appointed 1854-1894, and copies of the Colonial Gazette, 1838-1847. Also includes the minutes of the Colonial Land and Emigration Board, 1840-46; press cuttings, 1841; registers of births/deaths at sea, 1847-69; and lists of ships chartered, 1847-75
