Missionary and school teacher. Went to the Melanesian Mission, Solomon Islands in 1909 He was an army chaplain during World War I.

1) Correspondence comprising 24 letters 1909-11 from Blencowe to his parents describing his voyage to Australia and his work on Norfolk Island and Santa Cruz; 5 letters 1908-13 to Blencowe and his father re his appointment to Melanesia. 2) 2 notebooks containing entries May to Oct. 1910 arranged by village and a Mota-English vocabulary arranged alphabetically. 3) Documents including a list of the voyages made by Blencowe 1909-18; list of Melanesan Mission personnel 1911; a report headed 'Conversations with J.W. Blencowe 26 June 1932'; drafts for speeches and letters; map of the Santa Cruz islands and cuttings re H.M.S. Torch and H.M.S. Mongolia. 4) "Thoughts we all share", / Rev. John Walcot Blencowe, 99 p., (n.d.); "Home letters" / Guy F. Bury, addendum J.W. Blencowe, 23 p. (n.d); "My last voyage" / Bishop Cecil Wilson, (n.d.), re a journey of 1911 around his diocese in Melanesia. 5) Photographs of Melanesian Mission personnel, islanders and their dwellings, boats, churches, in the New Hebrides, Solomon, Torres and Banks Islands, San Christoval, Santa Cruz and Norfolk Island
