  • Scope and Content
    1) Correspondence with Charles Lee Smith and John Lee Smith, 1842-1858 re domestic and financial matters; Charles's voyage to Australia; the dispatch of natural history specimens to Dr Lee; events and conditions in Victoria; Melbourne workers striking for improved wages, and boiling down sheep for tallow. 2) Correspondence 1840-43, mainly from Charles Rumker, re payment due for the sale of land in N.S.W. in 1827; astronomical matters; Rumker's work in astronomy during his stay in N.S.W.; the business activities of Mr A.B. Sparke (sic) of Sydney; and the cost of erecting an observatory and residence at Parramatta. 3) Miscellaneous correspondence, including a letter from George Witt, Sydney; a letter from Miss Bessie Parkes, London, 1861, seeking subscriptions for a fund to assist young ladies emigrating to Australia; a letter from William Stratford Lee, Fremantle, 1865, stating he is now a ticket of leave holder and intends leading a reformed life
