    Formed 1711 and was granted a monopoly of British trade with South America, 1711-17 and the Pacific Islands, 1711-1807. Disbanded in 1855
  • Scope and Content
    1. Minutes of the Court of Directors, 1784-1805. The minutes refer to applications for licences for ships to proceed to the southern whale fishery. They usually state the name of the ship, the names of the owners and master, the number of crew and the tonnage of the ship. 2. Register of instruments to which Common Seal of Company has been affixed, 1735-1856. The register includes licences granted to ships to sail and fish within the limits of the jurisdiction of the Company
