  • General note

    Unsigned, untitled, and undated.
This watercolour was acquired with a collection of drawings that were accrued by J.T. Bigge, and held in the Bigge family. The collection included drawings by Richard Read Senior, however this drawing and another unidentified view, ""[Town view with soldiers]"" (located at V4B/1830-1840/2), do not appear to be in Read's style.
It has been suggested that the two unidentified drawings are similar in style to others by Francis Bigge, a nephew of J.T. Bigge, who was at Mount Brisbane in 1841, and therefore may depict Queensland scenes. (See F. McKinnon, ""In the tracks of the pioneer squatters in Qld. Geog. Jnl., Vol.46, 1939-1940, p.17).
The date suggested is based on the provenance and suggested attribution.
