    Lawes was stationed on Niue as a missionary of the London Missionary Society from 1868 to 1910
  • Scope and Content
    A volume of 148 pp. being a Niue to English vocabulary followed by names of parts of the body, introduced words and phrases in everyday use and words to know and avoid - indecent words.' It bears a note that it was prepared for the use of S. Percy Smith during his residence on Niue in 1902. There are additional notes in Smith's hand. Smith, who had founded the Polynesian Society in 1892, was New Zealand's first Government Resident on Niue
