    Sir John Barrow was second secretary of the Admiralty, 1804-06 and 1807-48. In 1831 he published 'The eventful history of the mutiny and piratical seizure of H.M.S. Bounty...', the first comprehensive account of the mutiny.
    Captain William Smyth, naval officer and scientific writer, published a memoir of Peter Heywood in the United Service Journal after Heywood's death in 1831.

    Letter written by Sir John Barrow to Captain William Smyth seeking information about Captain Edward Edwards and Peter Heywood for the book Barrow was writing about the mutiny on the Bounty. Captain Edwards had captured some of the Bounty mutineers on Tahiti including Peter Heywood who was later granted a royal pardon.
