Rose Lindsay (nee Soady) was the wife and model of Norman Lindsay. She began modelling for Norman in 1902, became his second wife, his long-standing model, his business manager, and the printer for most of his etchings.
Their partnership was one of the most fruitful in Australian art, with Norman as etcher and Rose as printmaker. She compiling seven large volumes of his etchings, which she sold to the Library in 1963. As a result, the Library holds an almost complete record of his etchings from the early 1900s until the 1950s -- Acquisition Notes, ML 621/04

The photograph is a strong portrait of an elderly Rose Lindsay, in front of Norman Lindsay's oil painting 'The Lute Player', ca. 1924, for which she was the model for all three female figures.
