    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, visited Australia from September 1920 to February 1921 as part of his campaign to further the cause of Spiritualism around the world. He was a prolific writer on the subject and an avid disciple. He lectured to large audiences in Melbourne and Sydney and attracted considerable attention from the press and antagonism from the church.
