    Thomas E. Spencer (1845-1911) is best known as a writer of humorous ballads. Among his more popular works are 'How McDougall Topped the Score' and 'Why Doherty Died'. He was a frequent contributer to The Bulletin and published two collections of verse in 1906 and 1908. He also published a novel and short stories. As an active freemason Spencer was a member of Leinster Marine Lodge and helped found the United Grand Lodge of NSW.

    1902; Printed poem: 'A Cove Called Victor Trumper', written specially by Spencer and recited by William Walsh as an encore to 'How McDougall Topped the Score' at the public reception to the cricketer Victor Trumper in Sydney Town Hall, 19 December 1902.
    1905-1911; Copies of publishing agreements made between Spencer and Alfred Cecil Rowlandson.
    1907; NSW Bookstall Co. Literary Competition - Results of Adjudication.
    1911; Program for a performance at the Criterion Theatre of 'Mrs McSweeney', being a stage adaptation of Spencer's collection of short stories titled 'The Surprising Adventures of Bridget McSweeney'.
    1911, undated; Newscuttings mainly concerning Spencer's death and funeral.
