The work is not signed, titled, or dated. Dated from costume.
Pieces are missing from each side of the portriat.
Accompanying the miniature is a printed invitation card, ""Miss Macarthur Onslow / At Home / Queen's Club, Queens Square / Monday, November 26th / R.S.V.P. / Camden Park / Monangle / 8.30 to 10.30 pm""
A handwritten note by Miss Flower (a former Library Officer), is stored with the portrait and reads, ""The enclosed miniature was found in a box of letters of Sir Henry and Lady Parker (Emmeline Macarthur) part of the Macarthur family papers. The subject, who has blue eyes, may be Sir Edw. Macarthur or John Macarthur junior. It is probably one of Capt. Macarthur or one of his sons, or possibly Sir Henry W. Parker, who was born in 1808. He married Emmeline Macarthur in 1848. James Macarthur appears to have brown eyes judging from a miniature in Mitchell Gallery""
