  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Long Bay was one of the out stations in the colonial penal establishment at Port Arthur, Tasmania. The principal work done there was timber milling.
  • Scope and Content
    14 March 1864-31 December 1864 ; At the front of the volume is a statement, dated 22 August 1862, regarding the duty of officers and constables to record the conduct and industry of gangs and prisoners on a weekly basis. At the top of each page is the name of a convict with the name of the ship on which he arrived. Beneath this information is recorded in columns headed Date, Class, Nature of Employment, Amount of Work performed, Conduct, Industry, Reference letter, and Signature. The entries are signed by E. Christie.

    The volume is only partially used and there are many blank pages.
    Volume was bound in July 1933.
