Caroline Louisa Waring Atkinson, artist, author, naturalist, and taxidermist, was born at Oldbury Farm, Sutton Forest, on the lower Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Louisa was raised in a literary family being the daughter of two authors; James Atkinson and Charlotte (nee Waring). The female in this portrait wears her hair in long ringlets and a dress of vertically striped fabric, moderately trimmed with Elizabethan revival style slashing on the bodice and a bow at the neck.
