  • General note

    Unsigned. However attributed to Gilbert as he is recorded in Robinson's journal in April 1847 as having visited and sketched Robinson and the house. On 22 April 1847 Robinson notes "Mr Gilbert taking front view of my house." On 11 June 1847 Robinson notes "Paid Gilbert £12 for two pictures."
    Robinson's house, sometimes called Terneet, was built on the south Bank of the Yarra, at the bottom of Chapel Street. The house was also known as Claremont, Rivoila and Tivoli: R Ian D. Clark & Laura Kostanski, "An Indigenous History of Stonnington", University of Ballarat, 2006.

    "Melbourne seen in distance. The figures in the foreground are those of G.A. Robinson & wife conversing with Aborigines. The property consisted of 20 acres on Merri Creek, 2 or 3 miles from Melbourne, costing 40 pounds an acre.
