    Objects - 8 x 30.4 cm (trowel) ; ca. 20 diam x 10 cm. (mallet) - Silver trowel with ivory handle, and black enamelled & turned wooden mallet, housed in a black morocco case lined in scarlet satin and velvet.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sir Henry Parkes acquired many silver trowels during his long period of office in the NSW Parliament. This one for the Waratah [near Newcastle, NSW] School of Arts came complete with a mallet for tapping the stone into place. Reference: 'Stories in Silver' exhibition, State Library of New South Wales, 1996.
