In 1838 Barlow's Repository of Arts in Bridge Street, Sydney advertised "Also, a full length portrait of Mary, a Native Black of Sydney, New South Wales ... drawn upon Zinc by Mr. W. Nicholas, ... who ... claims the sole right to use the Art of Zincography in New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land." -- Source: Commercial journal and advertiser. Sydney : W.
