    Manoly Lascaris (1912-2003) was born in Cairo. He met Patrick White in 1941 when White was serving in Egypt with the RAF. In 1948 Lascaris migrated to Australia. They lived at 'Dogwoods', Castle Hill, and later moved to Centennial Park in 1964. White drew on Lascaris' Greek background in some of his writing.

    1922-1962; Papers concerning his family. Includes passport for George Lascaris, 1922; concert programmes and newscuttings about pianist Mario Lascaris, Manoly's brother; history of the Chevalier de Lascaris, written in French in Patrick White's hand, probably copied from a book and sent to Lascaris from Paris in 1947.     1927-1969; undated; Letters received from family and friends. Letters are in Greek, French and English (Call No.: MLMSS 7593/1)
    1 May-26 June 1957; Letters received from Patrick White. 17 letters written by White from 'Dogwoods', Castle Hill, to Lascaris who was on a visit to Greece. White writes about preparations for the publication of 'Voss', family and friends, their cats and dogs, domestic affairs, house renovations and neighbourhood news. He mentions editor Ben Huebsch, writer Kylie Tennant and artist Sidney Nolan. (Call No.: MLMSS 7593/1)

    8 June 1985; Letter received from Barry Carman asking Lascaris to be the presenter/narrator of a proposed ABC radio programme about Alexandria, Egypt, in the period before 1956. Includes outline of suggested programme. (Call No.: MLMSS 7593/1)
