After migrating to Australia from Israel in 1940 Rabbi Porush became Chief Minister of the Great Synagogue in Sydney, a position he held until 1972. In 1942, when anti-Semitism was rife in Europe he was instrumental in founding Sydney's Council of Christians and Jews. In 1948 he became president of the Australian Jewish Historical Council. - Scope and ContentThe letter is addressed to J.M. Shaftesley of the Jewish Chronicle in London and describes the reaction of the local Jewish community to the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Australia in 1954.
