D'Arcy Wentworth (1764-1827), doctor, arrived in Sydney in 1790. He was superintendant of convicts at Norfolk Island from 1791 to 1796, and later became principal surgeon of Civil Medical Department from 1809 to 1819. He was superintendent of police from 1821 to 1825. In 1807 Captain Edward Abbott brought a charge against Wentworth for disobeying Abbott's orders to return to Parramatta Hospital two convicts who were working on Wentworth's property. Wentworth was found guilty by a court martial composed of Judge-Advocate Richard Atkins and officers of the New South Wales Corps. - Scope and Content'Proceedings of a general court martial [of D'Arcy Wentworth]...for contempt and disobedience of his orders...in refusing to receive into His Majesty's hospital at Parramatta, two government servants'. Includes evidence given by Wentworth, Abbott and others. Manuscript copy signed by Richard Atkins, Judge Advocate, certifying the documents as true copies.
