  • General note

    Tarban Creek Asylum first opened in 1838 when patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female factory. A later building was erected in 1852. The asylum later became known as the Gladesville Hospital for the Insane. It was the colony's first purpose built psychiatric asylum. Source: notes on ML file
    This is the same view as an ink sketch by Allport held by the Library at PXD 86 f.19, and is similar to another ink sketch by Allport held at PXD 86 f.34
