  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Helen Halse Rogers (1914-2005) was a pioneering social worker. As executive secretary of the Council of Social Service of New South Wales from 1939 to 1974 she was an influential force in a comprehensive range of social services including Meals on Wheels, adoption, single women, child care and mental health. In addition to her work at the council, she played a significant role on the Housing Commission of NSW from 1967 to 1979, as well as helping to establish organisations such as the Mental Health Association and the NSW Council on the Ageing. She was made an Officer of the British Empire in December 1976.
  • Scope and Content
    Helen Halse Rogers papers, 1936-1988. The collection comprises papers relating to Halse’s work in the area of social services, and personal papers. Material includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, seminar papers, transcripts of speeches, annual reports, brochures and printed material.
