Ian McInnes was a Victorian selected in the Australian team to compete in the 1923 International Lawn Tennis Challenge (Davis Cup). He accompanied fellow team members, J. O. (Jim) Anderson, J. B. (Jack) Hawkes and Bob Schlesinger to the United States, where Australia lost 4-1 to the Americans in the Challenge Round. - Scope and ContentThe diary records the Australian team's exhibition, practice and tournament matches in their 1923 Davis Cup campaign. It commmences with McInnes' arrival in Sydney on 29 May, followed by the team's departure on 2 June en route to America stopping at Auckland, Suva, Honolulu and Vancouver. The last entry is for McInnes' arrival in Melbourne on the return trip. The diary's inside back cover contains the names and addresses of a number of Australians and Americans.
