  • Scope and Content
    The first diary describes leaving Hobart on the Aurora, 7th Dec. 1911, setting up radio equipment on Macquarie Island, the severe conditions there, wild life on the island, food supplies including wekas and departure for Wellington Aug. 1913.
    In the second diary Sawyer describes life in Nauru during World War I while working as a radio operator. Includes notes at rear on the Caroline Islands and Nauru, and lists of stores supplied to Macquarie Island
