    George Washington Lambert (1873-1930), artist, was born on 13 September 1873 at St Petersburg. The family migrated, reaching Sydney on 20 January 1887. Lambert died on 29 May 1930 at Cobbity, near Camden. He was buried in the Anglican section of South Head cemetery. Lambert became a freelance illustrator with the 'Bulletin', from 1895, earning two pound a week for his contributions.
    Published as 'Less Risk' in the Bulletin, dated 3rd June, 1899.

    Pasted on back of drawing are partial cartoon captions. The full caption is: Woman: 'How is it that you Johnnies all admire married women so much more than single ones?". Johnny: 'Easily explained, there's not quite so much risk of having to marry them.'
    Attached to front of picture mount is, "'Accepted', Geo. W. Lambert."
