Forms part of Series 01 Part 09: Sir William Dixson coin collection : Australian Kangaroo Office currency

The Kangaroo Office operated for three years in Melbourne as a private mint. The Patterns were four ‘tokens’ made from gold, weighing respectively one quarter ounce, one half ounce, one ounce and two ounces. They were to resemble money as closely as legally possible, but would be valuable and could be traded for their gold content. The Kangaroo Office Patterns are also known as the Taylor Patterns, and the Port Phillip Patterns.
