- General note
This sketchbook is complete, it is numbered by both folio and sketch, 1-79 for the United Kingdom sketches and 1-10 for the Van Diemen’s Land. This shows the numbering was done for the UK sketches prior to the book being used in Australia.
The sketches are landscape format with the UK content covering Ullswater, Durham and only the Isle of Wight dated is 1826. The earliest date for contents would be estimated to 1804 (watermark `J. Whatman 1804’), `Design for a house at Ulswater’ is considered an unlikely project for 1826’.
