    By November 1852 the Bullion Act was amended to allow the striking of One, Two and Five Pound issues as well as Ten Shilling gold pieces. The first and only issue to be struck was the One Pound Coin … A local die maker, Joshua Payne, had cut the die, but a crack was discovered after less than 50 had been struck. (Source: McDonald)
