William Frederick Maclean worked in the pharmaceutical industry and was an amateur photographer.

From 1914 to 1948 he edited a column for the Australian Pharmaceutical Notes & News.

William and his wife Ada, nee Booth, lived in Nicholson Street, (later 40 Corrie Road), Brookvale. The house was built ca. 1915 and still stood in 1985.

Ada Booth's father was Lancelot Booth, an actor who appeared with Bland Holt. There are letters by him at MLMSS 4497

W.F. Maclean negatives have been donated to Gosford District Local History Study Group, Manly Historical Society, the Royal Australian Historical Society, Bellinger Valley Historical Society and the Coffs Harbour & District Historical Society.

The remaining photographs and negatives were given to the State Library.
