  • General note

    Reproduced in black & white, and described as a hand coloured lithograph, probably from the 1860s, in Flower, C. 'Duck and cabbage tree'. Sydney, A&R, 1968, page 21.
  • Signatures / Inscriptions

    'H' is inscribed beneath frame line, lower left. 'Governor Davey's Proclamation to the Aborigines 1816' is inscribed at upper centre.
    "Why Massa Gubernor said Black Jack - You proflamation all gammon - how blackfellow read him eh' He no learn him read Book".
    "Read that then, said the Governor pointing to a Picture" is inscribed beneath image, within frame lines. The lettering appears to be by hand; the image may be lithographed.
