    Ramberg (also spelt Rhamberg) exhibited this painting at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, Summer Exhibition for 1784 as no. 45 "The death of Capt Cook": see Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, no. 16, 1784, and Julien Domercq 'A Hero's Death', Apollo, July/August 2013, p. 49

    The painting was reviewed, critically, in E Johnson's British Gazette and Sunday Monitor, May 16 1784.
