  • Scope and Content
    63 photocopies of originals, twelve of which are now in the Dixson Galleries and one in the Mitchell Library.

    The photocopies include Lord Henry Scott's 'Sydney Harbour', presented to the Mitchell Library by Lady Forster in 1925.
    They are contact prints and enlargements made from a 35 mm negative held by Lord Montagu except for eight which are not photographed by him. The negative of these eight are at MAV/FM3/651.

  • Original held by
    The originals were on loan from the 3rd Lord Montagu of Beaulieu in February 1964 and were then exhibited in the Dixson Galleries. Twelve were subsequently purchased for the Dixson Galleries and one presented to the Mitchell Library.

    Most are titled on the front and some are titled from old mounts now discarded, but filmed at MAV/FM3/652.

    Itinerary of the Voyage compiled in the Mitchell Library from newspaper cuttings and letters by Henry Stobart to his mother (MLMSS 868) are at PXn 3.

  • Attributions / conjectures

    Originals may be by the Reverend Henry Stobart who accompanied Lord Henry Scott; compared with his letters from Australia in the Mitchell Library.

    Four of the watercolours are very similar in style to paintings in the Mitchell Library and Dixson Library by Conrad Martens. For titles of these see nos. 56, 58-60 on contents list filed with the photocopies.
