"Dr Joseph Arnold, b.1782, d.1818. In 1809 he was in Sydney as surgeon on a sailing ship that brought out Governor Macquarie. In 1815 he again visited Sydney, called on the Governor but was coldly received. His diary is in the Mitchell Library. Later he became the naturalist employed by Sir Stamford Raffles. He died of fever in Sumatra" -- note by Mr Wright, transcribed onto a label affixed to back of case - Access Conditions
