  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The University of New South Wales was originally established at Kensington, Sydney as the University of Technology in 1949 and architecture students were amongst the initial enrolments. The Faculty of Architecture was established in 1950 and the School of Architecture and Building created soon after.

Associate Professor John Maxwell (Max) Freeland, was appointed to the School of Architecture in 1957. In 1960 he was made Professor and under his guidance students were encouraged to study and record early Australian architecture. This collection appears to represent much of the student output created under Professor Freeland's tutelage in the period 1963 to 1976.
