  • Scope and Content
    The collection consists mainly of photographs and postcards of Ocean Island views, 'white staff' and native Ocean Islanders, their dwellings, social life and customs. It includes photographs of Samuel William Ridley, who went to Ocean Island in 1906 as an assistant engineer, and of his father, Robert R. Ridley, who worked at Ocean Island for the Pacific Phosphate Company 1905-1909.

    The collection also includes photographs of Japanese and German ships (including several of SS Opland), and a small number of views taken in other places, including Fiji, Honolulu and Canada.

    Volume 1 consists of 113 photographs, Volume 2 has 83 photographs and Volume 3 has 136 photographs
