The photos were taken by the Photographic Documentary Group, students from Sydney College of Arts to 'provide a visual record for the future and to make an artistic and informative contribution to the community'.
The photographers were : Debbie Hannigan, Sue Black, Catherine Rogers, Louise Minty, Caroline Cooke, Raya Litwak, Richard Hannah, Ray Beckett, Steven Lowjewski, Matthew Cumming, Judith Ahern, Angela Contini & Gloria Dimarakis.
The collection was made in 1983 and titled the Newtown Photographic Project. The photos show Newtown public buildings eg. railway station ; police station ; fire brigade ; churches ; schools ; parks ; cemeteries ; residences ; residents at home ; shops ; hotels ; factories ; streets ; children playing and the Newtown festival, 1983.
