The New South Wales Institute for Educational Research, formed in 1928, is a professional association of people interested in educational research. The objectives of the Institute are to encourage 'study, research and service' in education. The central activity for the Institute is an annual conference, at which members present scholarly papers in research in education. It also hosts an annual Sir Harold Wyndham Memorial Lecture, offers student grants for educational research, holds regular meetings, publishes newsletters and conducts conferences and workshops. As a state institute for educational research, the NSW IER is affiliated with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), and elects a representative to the national body.
