  • General note

    John Adams was the last surviving mutineer from HMS Bounty on Pitcairn Island, and died there in 1829 (see Australian encyclopedia, 1977, vol. 1, p. 356).

    Handle is missing, internal rim is chipped, mug has vertical cracks, rim of base is chipped.

    A letter from Josiah Adams, grandson of John Adams, to his daughter, dated 13 March, 1905, regarding the mug, is filed with other related material at MLMSS 5444.
